Executive Officer and Secretary

The Executive Officer is appointed by the Presiding Bishop and the President of the House of Deputies. As Executive Officer he/she oversees all aspects of the work of Church governance, from site selection through supervision and funding of the work mandated by the convention. The Executive Officer may also be elected to serve as the Secretary of the House of Deputies and, if elected by both houses of General Convention, Secretary of the General Convention.

The Rev. Canon Dr. Gregory S. Straub began his position as Executive Officer on April 15, 2005, elected Secretary of the General Convention at the 2006 General Convention, and was re-elected at the 2009 General Convention.

Gregory Straub was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania in 1974, served thirty years at Emmanuel Church, Chestertown, Maryland, in the Diocese of Easton and is a graduate of Dickinson College, Philadelphia Divinity School and Drew University. He attended his first General Convention in 1976 and has served four terms as deputy. At the 74th General Convention he served as Assistant Secretary for Voting of the House of Deputies. In 2009 he was named honorary Canon of the Cathedral Center of St. Paul in the diocese of Los Angeles.
