BURUNDI: Former primate Samuel Ndayisenga dies at 73

[Episcopal News Service] The Rt. Rev. Samuel Ndayisenga, former primate of the Anglican Church of Burundi, died on April 26. He was 73.

The present Archbishop of Burundi, the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi, extended his sympathy to Ndayisenga's wife and family on behalf of the Anglican Church of Burundi.

Ndayisenga was Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Burundi from 1998 to his retirement in 2005 and served the province through hard times of civil war, poverty and immense human suffering.

Ndayisenga's funeral was held in Buye on April 28.

Inaugurated as a province in 1992, the Anglican Church of Burundi consists of six dioceses throughout the country, which borders Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
