James Rosenthal appointed Awareness Foundation communications director
[Awareness Foundation] The Rev. Canon James Rosenthal has been appointed communications director for London-based Awareness Foundation, which "develops education and dialogue programs to stimulate confidence in the Christian faith within the context of 21st- century multi-cultural and multi-faith societies," according to a release from the foundation. The Awareness Foundation, which also maintains offices in Damascus and Washington, DC, was founded in 2003 in response to an increase in religious conflict and violence around the world. Its patron is the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Rosenthal, 58, previously served as director of communications for the Anglican Communion. During his tenure there, he served at three Lambeth Conferences and edited Anglican Episcopal World.
"The Foundation's work is of critical importance today, as the world deals with political and religious conflict in the midst of a global economic crisis," said Charles Longbottom, chairman of the Awareness Foundation. "We are delighted to have someone of the caliber of Canon Rosenthal to guide our communications programs, which are an essential part of our mission."
"The vision of the Awareness program could well be a vision for all people of good will in our wildly diverse and often fear-ridden world," said Rosenthal. "Lack of awareness leads to conflict rather than the path to peace. In the Anglican communities in the 60-plus countries I have visited, 'awareness' is always a key issue. I trust this work will flourish."
Rosenthal also assists at St. Stephen's Church, Walbrook, and its London Internet Church and is founder of the St. Nicholas Society.
