Homily for NAGA
First, before turning to the Gospel, I must thank my good friend and your President, Mary Lu Jarvis, for offering me the opportunity to serve as Chaplain to the National Altar Guild Association during her tenure. I am deeply honored by your invitation and by the subsequent invitation from the NAGA Liturgy committee to preach today. Thank you.

The Beauty of God’s Holiness
The Beauty of God’s Holiness in Art, Music, Altar, Garden and People. That is a big topic and an impressive list of expressions. I will not pretend to be the final authority on God or beauty or art or music or altars or gardens or people. Before you begin to wonder why, if that is the case, you should pay any attention to what I say, let me tell you that I do know how to stand in the midst of wonder...

A Newcomer’s Reflections on NAGA’s Convention
My first NAGA convention and the national church’s Triennial Convention were wonderful. We are all used to our parishes — be they small or large — but I had never seen so many Episcopalians in one place.

On the Road to Anaheim: Looking Back
My first NAGA convention was in Denver in 1979. Some people call me a “convention junkie” and in a sense I am, but each time I have come away enriched in every way...

Taize: Description, Background & Services
Taize has come to be known as a style of worship, based on contemplative silence and prayer songs. It is often quite a challenge to incorporate the Taize style of worship into another setting. Worship leaders would be well advised to incorporate parts of the Taize worship into a way that adapts to their own community life.

Saving Silken Symbols in the Service of the Lord
In the hills of Mendham, NJ is a small road
that enters the Convent of St. John Baptist. Built early in the 1900s, earlier sisters were a sewing order that taught
and created ecclesiastical embroidery to support their
ministries. No longer done on a large scale, it is
supported as an ongoing small ministry and I found my way there in the seventies. During the year people come to
ask advice about what to do in their own churches.

On The Road to Anaheim
The Beauty of God’s Holiness” will be the theme for the meeting. Workshops and worship will be used to explore His creation in art, in the garden and at the altar. However, we have chosen to do something a bit different for this meeting.
